A slow beautiful work...

Some of you have asked how my grandfather is doing, which is so sweet...

Our family is constantly amazed to hear how many people are praying for us and know about this new journey we are on of caring for our grandparents. The homemade meals and cards are such a beautiful outreach of love and a huge testimony to my grandmother especially. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Life for us is different for sure, but God has sustained us and given such grace. Some days it is hard to find joy in the mundane Monday drive to Lakeland, or the quiet days of just watching Abuelo sleep and keeping abuela from worrying too much. I am constantly amazed at the amount of words that are needed these days! So much affirmation, and so much rationalizing, so much comforting and so much "just because" talk, can leave you pretty much quiet by the end of the day.  :)

My grandmother needs so much support to walk through this time in her life, that it is definitely a learning experience for all of us, that's for sure. Many days, she sees my grandfather's illness as some kind of punishment from God, and wonders what they did wrong, and these are the times we try and explain to her that we don't always know the "whys" and "hows" of God's plan for our lives, but it is the simple trusting that He has a plan, and that it is always for our good....whatever it is. This is very hard for her to understand, as she doesn't have a personal relationship with the Lord, so please pray that she sees her need for Christ and His love for her.

Alzheimers is a hard disease to have, but even this, has brought laughter, joy and thankfulness into my grandparents home. In a way, we are sharing our lives in a way our grandparents have never seen, and it is a beautiful thing.

Fear not, I am with thee; oh, be not dismayed,
For I am thy God and will still give thee aid.
I’ll strengthen thee,
help thee,
and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
